Hi I'm Luke! I still have no idea what I'm doing here, so I just reblog a lot of stuff that catches my eye.

I don’t get it, man. why. why do we have to homogenize everything. why does every product have to look and behave and feel the exact same way. why can’t tumblr maintain its individuality? why can’t it lean into the things that make it a unique and refreshing offering instead of scrambling to make it a carbon copy of twitter? sucks, man. sucks.

it’s just like. this broadcasts loud and clear that the people behind the curtain have no pride or faith in this site at all. that tumblr, as a whole, has no worth or merit unless it’s somehow tricking the larger internet community into thinking it’s actually another site. and the users are supposed to celebrate this? where’s the dignity? where’s the self-respect? where’s the joy? it’s disheartening and embarrassing to be forced to conform. smh.

If you love Tree Law, the beloved subreddit is open again. I highly recommend sorting by top/all time.

To clarify after some questions:

(American) Tree Law is very satisfying because the cases often involve someone damaging trees that don’t belong to them, usually for an aesthetic, mercenary, petty, and/or spiteful reason. However, American tree law comes down like a HAMMER on such people, and they will get mighty fines. If the tree dies, in fact, they’ll be on the hook to replace the whole thing, and as it turns out, trees ain’t cheap. As the article above summarizes one incident in Reddit terms:

To rephrase it as an AITA post: am I the asshole if I cut down 32 trees on my neighbor’s property, but instead of just charging me a $32,000 fine, now they’re going to make me build a road and find transplanted, equally mature trees to replant?

Tree Law is perhaps one of the few branches (I didn’t even mean that to be a pun) of American law where self-entitled wrongdoers WILL face consequences. NBC Universal wants to maul a row of city-owned ficus trees to deprive striking workers of shade during a heat wave? Oh boy.

Now listen I don’t know much about tree law other than 1) It’s taken very seriously by lawyers and 2) Some states have what are called treble damages in that you can be fined/charged triple the cost of the damage to the tree (California only uses this when it can be proved the harm was intentional).

Babes. I might not know a lot about tree law but I know Universal killed those trees. The previous owners of my sister’s house trimmed her trees just like that and the city had to come out and replace them because they’d been butchered to the point they were growing back wrong in a way that killed them. If you want city trees trimmed, you have to call the city and they’ll send out the arborists/tree trimming company they’re contracted with.

Anyway I think they’d have a good case for treble damages which at that point it would have just been cheaper for Universal to give the writers and actors what they wanted.

Hey do you guys remember what I said about it definitely killing the trees

it’s funny to me how the logic behind tumblr’s new layout changes are to coddle potential new users, to make them feel more comfortable by giving them a layout that’s more familiar to navigate

…..by making the CURRENT users feel LESS comfortable by giving them a layout that’s LESS familiar to navigate.

they’re prioritizing a hypothetical scenario over their established, existing userbase, some of which (like me) who have been here for 10+ years

This is true I think, everyone just has very normal and even-minded thoughts and opinions about transfeminine sexuality
